[Includes following notes (sources not provided): Graduated from Hampden Sidney College and in 1783, from Princeton, New Jersey. He practiced law in Charlotte, Prince Edward, Cumberland and Buckingham Counties and settled in Charlotte in 1791. He was commonwealth attorney for Charlotte and Prince Edward until 1810 when he moved to Shelby County, Kentucky, where he was elected judge of one of the courts.
He was trustee of Hampden Sidney College 1792 to 1812. During the latter part of the Revolutionary War he served as aide to General Lawson and carried dispatches to LaFayette. Shortly after his move to Shelby County, Kentucky, he was installed ruling elder in the Mulberry Presbyterian Church. He was a man of much learning, great moral worth and a pure Christian character.
His wife, Elizabeth, died in April 1832 at their home in Kentucky. He died the following year while on a visit to relatives in Virginia, and was buried at Poplar Hill in Prince Edward County.]
