    "58 Capt. Joseph4 Treat (Joseph,3 Robert,2 Richard1), born March 21,1693, in Milford, Conn.; died May __, 1772, in his eightieth year, in Milford; … He and his wife, Hannah, were admitted to full communion in the First church, Milford, June 28, 1730. He subsequently united with the Second society. May 7, 1724, he had about 200 acres of land laid out on Shepaug neck, New Milford. He did not settle there himself, but two of his sons did. In May, 1739, he was appointed ensign of the First Co. of the train band in Milford, and in 1741, lieutenant. He was afterwards captain. He was a deputy from Milford for five years, between 1748 and 1756. Was selectman of the town in 1770 and 1771. His will is dated March 16, 1772. Wife Clement and son Stephen were executors. Mentions wife Clement; daughters Jane, Frances, Elizabeth, Hannah Sanford─who received his silver tankard, ─Clement Ingersoll, and Sarah Fenn, wife of Benjamin Fenn, jr.; sons Stephen, Joseph, John─who had his silver mounted cane─and Gideon. The personal property of his estate was inventoried at £420, real estate at £1049 in Milford, and £183 in New Milford and Litchfield."
