    Joseph C. Taws, pianist and composer, was born in Philadelphia around 1803. His father, Charles Taws, was a piano and organ builder, and music publisher. Joseph Taws made his first public performance as a pianist in 1818. He was friends with, and possibly a student of Benjamin Carr. The two shared bachelor quarters with George Schetky until Schetky was married in 1823. Taws was also involved in the founding of the Musical Fund Society in 1820.
