Smith, Joseph, Glastonbury. Invt. in lands, £1810-00-00. Taken by Benjamin Talcott and Samuel Gains. Will dated 14 September, 1725.
I, Joseph Smith, of Glastonbury, do make this my last will and testament: I give unto my brother Samuel Smith a certain lott or parcell of land in Glastonbury abutting on Connecticut River on the west, and from thence running three miles east and abutting upon the land of Daniel Wright on the south, and land of Capt. Samuel Welles on the north, excepting there out 1 acre of land which I formerly gave to the Rev. Mr. Timothy Stevens. I give unto Richard, Jeduthan and Manoah Smith, sons of my brother Benjamin Smith, to be equally divided amongst them, a certain piece of land in Glastonbury abutting west on Connecticut River, south on land belonging to Capt. Samuel Welles, north on lands formerly belonging to Thomas Bunce and now belonging to my brother Benjamin and myself, and east on a place where the meadow fence formerly stood, and in the division of the sd. last given land Manoah is to have the first choice and Jeduthan is to have the second choice, excepting, always 5 acres there out which I formerly gave to the parsonage of Glastonbury. I give unto the sd. Richard, Jeduthan and Manoah Smith, equally to be divided amongst them, and to their respective heirs and assigns forever, a certain piece of upland formerly bought by my father Richard Smith of one Thomas Bunce in Glastonbury. Sd. upland begins at the brow of the hill not far from Connecticut River on the west, and runs the whole bredth of the lott which formerly belonged to the sd. Bunce east as far as where the meadow fence formerly stood. I give to my brother Samuel Smith 25 rods in bredth of land abutting on the River Connecticut west, and from thence running east 3 miles, south on Capt. Welles's land, and north partly on the parsonage land of Glastonbury and on land belonging to my brother Benjamin and myself, excepting out of his bequest 6 acres belonging to Richard Fox. I give unto the sd. Jeduthan Smith my horse, as also my small gun or carbine. I give unto the sd. Richard Smith my fowling piece. I give my brass kettle and all my pewter and bedding to my cousins Dorothy and Dinah Smith, daughters of my brother Benjamin Smith, to be divided between them. And as for all the rest of my goods and chattells, or other estate whatsoever, not herein before given, I give the same unto my brother Benjamin Smith, his heirs and assigns forever. My brother Samuel Smith to be executor.
