Questionable Information Found
A page on WeRelate shows a different Joseph belonging to the family Family:John Severance and Abigail Kimball (1), one who lived in Yarmouth and sold land in Salisbury, such as he might inherit from a father but not want because he no longer lives there, and named a daughter Abigail, as he might if his mother was Abigail, all circumstantially suggesting he is correct identified. This Joseph, on the other hand, is only so identified in a secondary source, there is no record given to show that widow Seaverns' husband was named Joseph, or that Samuel's father was named Joseph, or connecting him to John and Abigail. By all appearances they took a handy birthdate and assumed it belonged to Samuel's father.
