As of March 2004, the only clue I have of Joseph's existence is a record of Civil War service from Ancestry.com. It states that Joseph Risley was inducted and discharged as a Union private. It does not give dates, but Joseph Jr. would have been too young to serve in the Civil War, as he was born in 1856. Joseph Sr. evidently served in Captain Loomis. Company, (A) Marion Battalion H.G. (Homeguard?).
