"9. Joseph (John2, John1), born in Hartford, Conn., March 6, 1671, was bap. at the first church of Hartford, Dec. 13, 1696. He married July 22, 1697, Sarah Colyer. [Hurd’s Hist, of New London Co.: Atwater Hist. Kent, Ct., Colchester, Conn., Records.]
At the General Assembly in 1700, Oct. 10, he was present as deputy for Milford 'Lieut. Joseph Pratt (Colonial Records). [This was probably Joseph Platt [1649-1704] of Milford] 'He deeded away his lands in Hartford, Mch. 12, 1700.' (Chapman's Pratt family.)
'May 13, 1703, this Court Grants that Joseph Pratt etc. and the rest of the proprietors or freeholders in the township of Colchester shall have 'a pattent given them for the whole township to be signed according to the law.' (Colonial Records, p. 415, l6). The title of Sergeant is given him in the records of the town, i.e. 'April 29, 1723, Sargeant Pratt credit for perambulating labor as lien, £0. 0s. 3d. To the fetching Mr. Neucome to judge the work of the galleries, expense and attendance thereon in all, £0. 10. 0.'
'Sept. 6, 1725, Sargt. Joseph Pratt's gun was pressed for the public service, and was then apprized by Joseph Wright and Nathanel Cahoone and judged to be worth fifty shillings money, and was delivered to John Beebe, who was going into the county of Hamshire; also hatchet belonging to Azariah Pratt pressed and delivered to sd John Beebe for said service.'

'Sept. 6, 1726, for hanging 3 casements and hanging the doors, 4s.' (Chapman's Pratt family, p. 312.)
'Sarah, wife of Joseph Pratt, died Nov. 20, 1730.' (From her gravestone in Colchester, Ct.) …
In Porter’s Historical Notices of Hartford it states that Joseph Pratt married a daughter of John Marsh. In the Marsh Genealogy a copy of the will of John Marsh, born 1643, is given in which he mentions his son-in-law, Joseph Pratt. This must have been Joseph's second marriage. No other records can be found pertaining thereto."
