NIEUWSMA, Joe Sr., age 73, of 208 9th Street, Lynden passed away in a local hospital Saturday, January 12, (1963) following a short illness. He had been a resident of Lynden since 1946 and was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Lynden. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth, two sons Herman Peter of Lynden and Melvin Ray of Campbell, Calif., two daughters, Mrs. Edward Statema, and Mrs. Archie Statema both of Lynden. A step-son Hollis Meeboer and a daughter-in-law Mrs. Wilma Nieuwsma both of Lynden. Three sisters Mrs. Celia Huisingh, Mrs. Kate Timmer and Mrs. Gertie Bouma all of Lynden. Two brothers Frank and John both of Hull, North Dakota. Also 23 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Those desiring may donate to the Cancer Fund. Funeral services will be held from the Bethel Christian Reformed Church Tuesday, January 15 at 3 p. m., Rev. Andre Zylstra officiating. Burial will follow in the Monumenta Cemetery under the direction of the Gillies Funeral Home.
