"Joseph (Meakins), b. abt. 1669; d. at East Hartford, 1 Jan. 1724/5 ae. 55 (g. s.); … Administration on his estate was granted, 6 Apr. 1725, to his brothers, John and Samuel Meakins. On 5 Apr. 1726, John Meakins was appointed guardian to Joseph, aged 7, Sarah, 11, and Abigail, 4; and Samuel Meakins was appointed guardian to Mary, aged 12, Hannah, 8, and Rebeckah, 2. On 3 July 1733, Hannah, aged 16, chose William Pitkin for guardian; Abigail, aged 12, chose her uncle, Thomas Spencer; John Meakins, brother of the deceased, to be guardian to Rebeckah, aged 12; but Lieut. John Meakins resigned the trust, and 7 Dec. 1738 Rebeckah chose Thomas Hurlbut of Wethersfield."

Page 126—5 April, 1726: John and Samuel Meakins exhibited an account of their Adms. Accepted. And this Court appoints John Meakins to be guardian to Joseph Meakins, age 7 years, to Sarah 11, to Abigail 4 years of age. And Samuel Meakins is appointed guardian to Mary Meakins, age 12 years, Hannah 8, and Rebeckah 2 years.
