- ↑ 1.0 1.1 1.2 1.3 Joseph Herman Irish was born Mar. 4, 1857 in Westerly, R. I. the son of Oliver B. and Sarah Anthony Irish and departed this life at 7:10 p.m. Sept. 10 at the home of his daughter Mrs. Geo. Key, Jr., in Peoria Heights, Ill. He was 90 years old.
At an early age he located with his parents near Farina where they lived on a farm. He attended college at Milton, Wisc. and Valparaiso College, Valparaiso, Ind. and taught school for years in and around Farina and in Centralia. On Sept. 7, 1892 he married Miss Ethel Davis and to this union six children were born, one daughter, Lois, preceding him in infancy. Surviving besides his widow, are two sons, Arnold of Champaign, and Kenneth of Farina, and three daughters, Elaine and Aster of Farina and Iris of Normal. Ten grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive him. In 1901 he moved with his family to Vandalia and was assistant circuit clerk during the time J. W. Schenker was circuit clerk. He was assistant cashier of First National Bank for 11 years. In 1918 the family returned to Farina where he was assistant cashier of the state bank of Farina for 13 years. He also served as town clerk, and treasurer of the Mutual Telephone Co. for a number of years. He was a member of Farina I.O.O.F Lodge for 52 years. In 1937 he and his wife moved to Peoria Heights where they have since resided. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, Sept. 13 at Wilton chapel in Peoria with Rev. Claude Hill officiating.
