If I have this right, his first wife was Massara. She had 2 kids (Antonio and Maria), then died. He remarried and went back to Italy (or vice versa). Dan was born in Italy and the 5 of them came back to America.

If I understand correctly, Joseph made sure that all of his children were born in Italy. They would travel back, have the baby, then return to America.
