    Case 4506.

Vol. 22, p. 352 Will of "Joseph Ellis", dated Dedham 13 Nov 1721, proved 10 Jan 1721[/22], names wife Sarah Ellis; son [eldest son] Joseph Ellis; son Aron Ellis; "Brothers and Sisters" of his two sons [not named]; daughter Dorothy; son Moses. Wife and son Joseph to be executors.

  4. There were two Joseph Ellis born in Dedham in 1666. Consequently, the secondary literature is confused. One Joseph is son of Joseph and Ruth. The other Joseph is son of Richard and Elizabeth.

Source:Stearns, Ezra S. Genealogical and Family History of the State of New Hampshire, ironically, says on Vol. 1, p. 434: "A patient search has resulted in the line herein given, which may be relied upon as accurate." And then appears to give the wrong answer as it shows the son of Joseph and Ruth m. Mary Graves and having [among others] children named Richard and Elizabeth.

Meanwhile Source:Olney, Sandra Sutphin. Passengers on the "Lion" from England to Boston, 1632 shows the son of Richard and Elizabeth m. Dorothy Spaulding and having a daughter [among others] named Ruth.

Clearly the names they chose for their children show that both sources are wrong.
