Joseph Brown, b. 1679 [per II:731, change 1679 to 1677]; a cordwainer, son of John and Esther; m., in Watertown, Nov. 15, 1699, Ruhamah Wellington. He probably settled in Wat. Farms (Weston), as he sold to Benjamin Garfield, 72 acres of land in Weston, Ap. 20, 1709, about the time he moved to Lex. He and his wife were admitted to Lexington church, May, 1713, of which church he was afterwards a Deacon. He d. Jan. 11, 1766, aged 86, and his wid. d. July 1, 1772, aged 92 [Lexington VR (168) says he d. Jan. 11, 1764 in his 86th year and she died 1 July 1772 age 91 y.]. He was constable, 1700, and selectman and town clerk of Wat, 1708. [Note: under the paragraph on his father John Brown, Joseph is shown as the second son of that name, b. 1677, while his father lived in Marlborough.]

Cordwainer", dated 22 Nov 1757, codicil 26 Jun 1759 deleting crossed out legacies mentioned below, proved 6 Feb 1764, names wife Ruhamah Brown, [legacies to Church of Christ in Lexington, son William Brown crossed out], two grand-Children John Comee & Joseph Comee, son Benjamin Brown, son John Brown, son Josiah Brown, son Daniel Brown, son Joseph Brown, son James Brown, son Jonas Brown, son William Brown. Sons Daniel and James to be executors. 2 Jan [sic] 1764 [accepted by judge 6 Feb 1764]: Agreement of "we Daniel John Joseph Jonas James Josiah Benjamin & William Brown Heirs to ye Estate of Dec Joseph Brown Late of Lexington Deceas'd", to give widow Ruhamah Brown one full third, remainder of moveable estate (except money) to Benja: Brown. 31 Jan 1764: Assent of heirs to proving of will.
