[edit] ProbateIn the Name of God Amen. This Eleventh day of February in the Year of our Lord one Thousand Seven hundred and Eighty six I Joseph Brigham of Marlborough in the County of Middlesex and Commonwealth of Massachusetts Yeoman - Being of Perfect mind and memory: Thanks be Given to God therefore; But Calling to mind the Mortality of my Body and the uncertainty of Life - Do make and Ordain this my last Will and Testament.That is to say, first of all I recommend my Soul my immortal part to my God who Gave it, hoping in his Mercy, only through Jesus Christ, to receive it again and injoye an inheritance among all them that are sanctified[.] And my Body I Commit to the Earth from which it was taken to be Buried in a decent Christian Manner at the discretion of my Executor hearafter Named, hoping to receive if again by the Mighty Power of God at the resurection of all the dead, with advantages of immortal life & Glory. And as touching Such Worldly Estate as it has pleased God to Bless me with in this life I Give and dispose of the same in manner Following.- Imprimus I Will and Give to my Beloved Son Stephen Brigham and to his heirs One third part of my wearing apparel and the reason why I give him No more in this my last Will, is, That I think I have given him his full share out of my estate heartofore as by receipts will appear. Item I Will and Give to my Beloved Son Josep[h] Brigham Ju'r and to his heirs and Assigns for ever, All my Buildings and Lands in the Town of Marlborough and all my Cedar Swamp in Northborough or else where, and all my right in Cow Common so Call'd in undivided lands yet to lay out Belonging to Marlborough Propriety; And all my live stock of every sort and all my Utensils for Husbandry of every sort also my Rideing Shase - And all my indoor moveables of every kind - Also all my money and Securitys for Money if any there be, which I may die seas'd and posed off [i.e., seized and possessed of]: and all my Books, and my Box for writings and it[s] Contents. - and one third part of my wearing apparel to Come into possesion of all, as above, at my Decease: Except what shall be by me otherwise disposed of in my life time, or by this my last Will. Item I Will and Give to my Beloved Son Jonah Brigham and to heirs One third part of my wearing apparel the reason for my not giving him more in this my last Will is that I think I have given him his full share out of my Estate as by Receipts may appear - Item I Will and Give to Sam'll Solomon Mehitiphil and Lovinah Jones Children of my Beloved Daughter Mehitaphel Jones Deceas'd Five pounds Lawfull Silver money to be paid them and Equally divided among them at the end of Eight Years next after my desceasd by my Executor Item I Will and Give to Sarah Annesairvira [?] Lucy Benjamin Luture [presumably this is Lucretia] Martha [presumably this is Patty] and Joseph Tayntor Children of my Beloved Daughter Sarah Tayntor Give pounds Lawfull Siver Money to be paid them at the end of five years next after my decease by my Executor Item I Will and Give Lucy [must be Susy?] Rice[,] Anne [i.e., Nanny] Morse[,] Jonah[,] William[,] Lovinah[,] Aaron[,] and Ma[r]tha How Children of my Beloved Daughter Lovinah How Deceased three pounds Lawfull Silver Money to be paid to them at the end of ten years next after my Decease by my Executor Item I Will and Give to John Barns and Martha Brigham Children of my Beloved Daughter Martha Barns Deceas'd three pounds Lawfull Silver Money to be paid at the end of Eleven Years next after my decease by my Executor Item I Will and Give to my Grand Children Winsor Lucy Elisebath and Sarah Straten Children of my Beloved Daughter Lucy Straten Five pounds Lawful silver Money to be paid them at the End of four years next after my decease by my Executor hereafter named - all which sums as above mentioned to be Equally divided among my said Grand Children - The reason why I give no more to my Beloved Daughters Children is, I Gave their Mothers Stock and Furniture at the time of their Marriage, and furniture Since which has been divded among them. Item My Will Father [i.e,further] is that my Executor hearafter named pay all my Just Debts together with the above Legacies out of my Estate which I have given him, and that he faithfully Execute this my last Will respecting the Estate I die seas'd and Posess'd of according to the disposes of this Will. - Item I Will and Give to my Beloved Grand daughter Merriam Trayntor the privilege of making my House her home so long as she behaves herself well and remains unmarried - Item I Constitute appoint and Ordain my Son Joseph Brigham Jun'r Sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament. - And I do hearby utterly disalow revoak and disanul, all and every other and former Testaments, Wills, Legacies or Bequeaths or Executors by me in any wise before named or Willed Ratifying this and no other, to be my last Will and Testament. In Witness Whereof I the Said Joseph Brigham have hearunto Set my hand and Seal on the abovesaid Eleventh day of February in the Year A D. 1786.
