In the Name of God Amen.

The 15th day of Jan'r in ye Eleventh year of the Reign of our Sovraign Lady Anne by ye Grace of God of Great Britain France & Ireland Queen Defender of ye faith Anno Domini 1712/13.

I Joseph Allen of ye Town of Weston, Alias Watertown in ye County of Midd'X in ye Provinc of ye Massachusetts Bay in New England Coop'r being Aged, & weak of body but of sound & Disposing memory; Thanks be given to God for ye same Do Make & Ordain this my Last will & Testament in Mann'r & forme following; That is to say first, & principally I Resign my Soul into ye Mercyfull Hands of Almighty God my Creator, assuredly hoping through ye merits of my blessed Saviour to Obtain pardon and remission of all my Sins; And my body I Committ to ye Earth, Whence it was Taken, to be Decently buried by ye Discretion of my Execut'r, herein after Named; and as for ye worldly goods & Estate ye Lord hath lent me; I Dispose thereof as follows viz.

First, I will that all those Debts, & Duties, as I Do owe in Right or Conscience to any mann'r of P'r'son or P'r'sons what so Ever shall be well & Truly paid or Ordained to be p'd in Conveniant Time After my Decease by my Execut'r Herein After Named.

Imp's: I Give & bequeath unto my Dear & Loving Wife Anne Allen ye use & Improvm'ts of ye One Moiety, or half part, of all my Housing, Barne, Orchard, lands & medows in said Weston Alias Watertown w'ch are Now in my own possession & under my Actual Improvm'ts Not Otherwis Disposed of also ye use & Improvm'ts of all my Quick Stock & Movabls, That is to say of so much of each (Land Stock & Movabls) as she shall Stand in Need of for her own P'r'ticul'r use & Comforte During ye Time She Remains my widow, but if it Hapen that my s'd Wife Do mary a Gaine then to Have a Third of my P'r'son'll Estate of w't Remains After Debts & fun'rll Expences Discharged (& No more) to be at her Own Dispose for Ever.

Item: I Give & bequeath unto my Eldest Sone Joseph Allen That Half Acre of Land be it more or Less, on w'ch he Hath planted an Orchard Near to his Now Dwelling house, on ye East'r'ly side therof betwen s'd House of his & ye Raile fence, w'ch is on ye west'r'ly side of ye High way as Now Trode. & also all my Right title & Interest to Lands in Haverhill in ye County of Essex in New England To him his heirs & assigns for Ever w'ch being Considered with what he hath heretofore Had shall be in full of all his part & portion of my Estate both Real & p'r'son'll.

Item: I Give & bequeath unto my three Daughters viz. To Deborah Allen. Rachel Allen. and Patience Allen Twenty Pounds Apeice That is to Say, Counting What they Shall Receive from ye Above writen Day of ye Date of these p'r'sents as a part of s'd Twenty pounds apeice as may apear by my acounts Referanc therto being Had to be p'd by my Ex'tr in ye following ordrer(as to Time), viz to my s'd Daughter Deborah within One year after my Decase. To my Daughter Rachel Allen within Two years after my Decease. & To my s'd Daughter Patience Allen within Three years after my Decease. which sjall be in full of each & Every of their parts & portions of my Estate both Real & P'r'sonall.

Item: And all ye Rest & Residue of my Estate, Housing, Lands, Medows, Homstall Orchard buildings barne fences Rights & priviledges, goods & Chattels viz all my Estate Real & P'r'sonall as well That w'ch w'ch [sic] I have herein & hereby given my wife ye Improvment of as abovesaid, as my other Estate in s'd Weston Alias Watertow[n] or Else where, (Not herein or otherwise Heretofore Disposed of;) After my Debts, Legacies; & fun'rll Expences Discharged (after ye Death, or at ye Marriage of my s'd wife) I Give & bequeath unto my Dutyfull Son Nathaniel Allen, (his heires & assigns for Ever) Whome I Likewise Constitute, Make & Ordaine my Only & Sole Execut'r of this my Last Will & Testament; Revoking all Other Wills by me Heretofore made. In Wittness whereof I have hereunto Sett my hand & Seale, the Day & year first above written.

    'Joseph, was a cooper; lived in Weston; m. Anne Brazier Oct. 11, 1667; and had nine children. She d. Dec. --, 1720; and he d. in Weston Sept. 9, 1721.'

  4. BentS2 gives Joseph as the third son, probably born in England. His father's first documented presence in New England is 1640, though he may have come over earlier than that.
