Facts and Events
He recieved from his father estate a "part in the dwelling house and barn and lands adjoining thereto." He was a cooper by trade and on Feb. 5, 1732, he was living in Taunton. (Bristol C. Deeds, Bk. 21, p.340). "Jonathan Eddy of Taunton, Cooper...to Joseph Eddy of Taunton, yeoman, one messuage lying 3 miles northwardly from sd Taunton old meeting house, 30 acres...bounded east by a river called Mill River, south by Capt. Joseph Leonard's north by Joseph Eddys and partly common or undivided land and west by Daniel Owen and common." dated Feb. 5, 1732. This deed enables one to identify on the old map of Taunton, drawn May 28, 1728, the J. Eddy which was Joseph Eddy. He is the J. Eddy which is nearest to Scadding Pond. In 1740 Jonathan sold most of his holdings in Taunton to his brother, Joseph, and it is probable that he joined his sister, Mary Rude, in Preston, at about this time. Zachariah Rude, the son of Mary (Eddy) Rude, of Preston, Conn., was appointed administrator on the estate of Jonathan Eddy, of Preston on Aug. 13, 1745 (Conn. State Prob. Rec.) The State Library at Hartford contains a "True INventory of the Chattels of Mr. Jonathan Eddy, Cupper, who died July 10, 1745. It was appraised at L92-3-8. References
