[Leita Family History.FTW] Jonas was found living with his brother in the 1920 U.S. Census, Illinois. He was age 38, could read and write Lithuanian, spoke no English and immigrated in 1908. He was a coal miner with U.S. Fuel Co. in Westville, IL. According to records from the Urbas Funeral Home, Westville, IL, Jonas was buried in the Lithuanian National Cemetery, Westville, IL, on 05 Feb 1944. The records state that his mother was Ursule Leises and his father was George Leita. Jonas boarded with Kastutis PROVELONES and never married. A probate record for Jonas LEITA was found under the name of Jose (Joe) LAIKIS (LAITIS). Kastutis PROVELONES was the informant. Jose (Jonas) owned: 1 trunk, 1 coal oil lamp, 2 straight chairs, 1 cot and bedding and a 1937 Ford Coupe. PROVELONES submitted a bill of $535.00 against the estate for the 83 weeks he nursed and cared for Jose (Jonas). Jonas Leita, the son of the peasants Jurgis and Ursule Lasyte Leita’s, was born in 10.01.1878 in Martinaiciai village. The priest Kladauskas baptized him in 15.01.1878 in Balninkai Roman catholic church. The godparents were Mykolas Petniunas and Serpauskaite. F669 Ap19 B49 l 22v &11 References
