At Listowel Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, August 2, 2005, Mr. John Cornelius Van De Gevel of Listowel, in his 82nd year. Beloved husband of Mary Van De Gevel. Dear father of Riek and Bert Arand of R.R. 2, Atwood, Peter and Cindy Van De Gevel of R.R. 2, Ayton, Liz and Earl Lannin of R.R. 2, Atwood, Christine Lannin of R.R. 2, Atwood, Joanne and Hugh Crawford of R.R. 1, Monkton, Andre and Brenda Van De Gevel of R.R. 2, Atwood, Mary and John McLagan of R.R. #5, Mitchell, John and Kim Van De Gevel of R.R. 2, Atwood, Paul and Mary Van De Gevel of Aurora, and Margaret Van De Gevel and Mario DiLeonardi of Stouffville. Fondly remembered by 27 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Brother-in-law of Leonard Van Dyk of Peterborough, and Kees and Nellie Tegenbosch of R.R. 2, Atwood. Also survived by two sisters and three brothers in the Netherlands, as well as several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his granddaughters Kelly and Vicki Crawford, his son-in-law Ray Lannin, and six sisters.
John farmed all his life, and he enjoyed woodworking and family life.
Visitation will be held at the Robert Trench Funeral Home, Listowel on Friday, 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. with vigil prayers in the funeral home at 9:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Listowel on Saturday, August 6th at 11:00 a.m. Father Paul Nicholson officiating. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel. Memorial donations to Heart & Stroke Foundation or Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
