[Afton page 18] The certified extract from the vital registers of Hegenheim in Alsace (in French), issued 18 Feb. 1822. On 5 Feb. 1822 appeared Pierre Kauffman farmer 29 and reported that a child of male gender had been born on this day at 4 o'clock a.m. by Anne Schneider, aged 21, unmarried daughter of Jacques Schneider and Elisabeth Stauffer at Dürmenach, and the child was given the name Jean. Jean Zimmerman, aged 25, son of late Jacques Zimmerman and late Anne Koenig at Riechen, Canton of Basel (Switzerland) is present to this act and declares to be the father of the child, and signs by his handmark.
