    Continental Congressman. Signer of the Articles of Confederation. Delegate from North Carolina. John moved to North Carolina in 1745. He donated the land and laid out the town of Williamsboro, N.C. He was one of the founders of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. John was a judge of the supreme court of North Carolina from 1779 until his death. He is interred in the family cemetery in Montpelier, N.C.
