According to Martha Jean Whiteside Meahl Keith: " When my dad was in first grade, his father stopped by the school to tell Dad (James Sylvanius Whiteside) good-bye and that he was leaving home. Seems he had gotten a female pregnant and was taking off with her. He of course didnt tell that to my dad. Anyway, by the way of teh grapevine his father took of for Colorado.

Per research done by Pam Harrell Whiteside: John Fletcher Whitesides married Nancy McCallie about 1881 in either IL or IA. Lillie was born in 1882. They moved to KS to join his brother but Nancy wasnt happy or the marriage was rocky, so she left, taking Lillie. I'm not sure where she went, maybe back to Pt. Byron or perhaps IN (maybe her parents were there), but he followed, they reconcilled and had 4 more children. Sometime between 1896 and 1902 they separted for good and I presume divorced.

He married Emma in 1902 in IN. They moved to CO and had 2 children, then moved to KS and had 2 more. They probably moved back to CO as his children seem to have been centered in that area.
