NOT to be confused with John Westfall (abt. 1858-1824) of Harrison County, [West] Virginia. Several researchers have confused the two, who appear to be cousins.

    John Westfall was born to John Westfall and Sarah Van Noy on his grandfather Abel's 400 acres; which was along the South Fork of the South Branch of the Potomac River and twelve miles south of present Moorefield, West Virginia. At that time, the land was in Hampshire County, Virginia. In 1761, John moved with his parents to one of Lord Fairfax's leased lands called farmlets on his 50,000 acre South Branch Manor, located at present Petersburg, West Virginia. In 1774, John fought the Shawnee Indians, in present Ohio, in Lord Dunmore's War. John later served in the Revolutionary War, in Captain Wallace's company of the 7th Virginia regiment under General Green.

    John wed, name unknown, in about 1780 and they had had:
    1) Abraham in ~1781

    John's wife died and he moved to Knox County, Indiana and there wed, name unknown. They had:
    1) John on 26 Aug 1798
    2) Sarah in 1800
    3) Catherine in 1807

    John left a Will, dated Jun 30, 1808, and all four children were mentioned. As wife not mentioned in John's Will and they had a child in 1807 then she died in 1807.
