John and two of his brothers, erected Mt Zion United Brethren Church in 1861. This little congregation was founded in 1847 by some dissatisfied families of St Bartholomew's Church. For a number of years they held their worship service in John Wentz's summer house until they were able to build their small, brick church which was to become widely known simply as Wentz's Meeting House. This church functioned for some 75 years and then ceased. Today the church building and cemetery are maintained as a kind of memorial shrine and yearly meeting place by the Stonesifer - Wentz descendants of the original members.
