In Albion, Wis., on Second-day, May 22d, 1871, Dea. John Webster, in the 73d year of his age. The subject of this notice was happily converted to God at the early age of fourteen years. He did not, however, go forward in church relationship until the month of August, in the year 1831, when he united with the Six Principle Baptist Church in Richmond, R. I. In the autumn of 1835, he was unanimously called and ordained to the office of deacon of that church. The ordination sermon was preached by Eld. Thos. Tillinghast, consecrating prayer by O. W. Potter, charge by W. Barber, and hand of fellowship by H. B. Lock. In the year 1845, his attention was directed to the subject of the Lord's Sabbath, and after a careful and candid investigation of the whole matter, he came to the conclusion that the seventh day of the week was the only Sabbath resting upon Bible authority, and he at once commenced its observance. Two years later, (1847,) he united with the Rockville Seventh-day Baptist Church. For the last seventeen years, he has been a faithful and devoted member, and an accepted deacon, in the Albion Seventh-day Baptist Church. His last sickness was protracted and painful, yet he bore all his sufferings with a remarkable degree of Christian patience and resignation. He was blessed with reason till the last, and having finished his work on earth, he waited with anxiety for the Master to bid him "come up higher." "He rests from his labors, and his works do follow him." His funeral was attended in the Albion church, on Fourth-day, the 24th of May. The pastor of the church being absent attending the funeral of a near relative, the discourse was preached by Eld. B. F. Rogers, from 1 Cor. 15: 57 - "But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." J. E. N. B.
