The will of John Waterman, yeoman, was dated 3 Jan. 1742/3, and proved 21 Oct. 1744. To his wife Elizabeth he left one half of the movable estate forever; two negroes, Dille and Jonah; with the farm in the West Society known as Cross's farm, excepting five acres purchased of Benjamin Abell; with half of all the lands in Norwich which I call my homestead farm, that is to say one half of ye home lott and buildings on it; with one half of the upland and meadow over the river opposite said lott; with one half of the lands adjacent, the part I purchased of Mr. Thomas Leffingwell. If wife marry again, then she is to leave the house and it is to be David's. To David Basset Waterman, ye above five acres purchased of Benjamin Abell, with the other half of the lands and buildings, to be equally divided between him and my wife Elizabeth. To son Eleazer, five shillings, which with the land already given him, is his portion. To son William, £100,. which is the whole of his portion, to he paid in two years out of the movable estate. To son Ebenezer, five shillings, out of my movable estate, which with what I have already given him, is his portion. To my two daughters, Elizabeth, wife of Jonathan Avery, and to Hannah, wife of Benedict Arnold, £50 each. To youngest daughter Elizabeth, £50, and the remaining part of the movable estate and household goods is to be equally divided between my wife and my youngest daughter.
