Obituary

JOHN WALT, 84, DIED AT THE G.H. HOSPITAL

  John Walt, 84, of Coopersville who served as a chief engineer on Great Lakes boats for 30 years before retiring eight years ago, died Friday at the Grand Haven Municipal Hospital.
 He was born in Eastmanville in Ottawa County, November 20, 1871, and married Grace Fisk in 1893.  The couple settled in Charlevoix where Mr. Walt worked on a commercial fishing tug.  When his wife died 14 years later, he moved onto larger Great-Lakes boats.
 He leaves a son, Melbourne of Flint, two daughters, Mrs. Henry Laug of Coopersville, Mrs. Anita Horter of Marne; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Nellie Meindertsma of Coopersville.
 Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Throop Funeral Home with Rev. Peter Muyskens officiating.  Burial was in Marne Cemetery.
