Wadsworth, Deacon John, Farmington. Invt. £885-05-09. Taken 1718, by John Porter, Timothy Porter and Isaac Cowles. Will dated 20 August, 1718.

I, John Wadsworth, do make this my last will and testament: I give to Mary my wife, to be for her use and improvement during the term of her natural life, viz., the one-half of the house I live in and the one-half of the lott that it stands upon, with one-half of all other buildings and appurtenances upon or belonging to said lott; also the one-third part of all the land which is mine within the common field in sd. Farmington. Also I do give and bequeath unto my said wife, to be to her own dispose forever, 1-3 part of all that personal estate which shall be left after my just debts are paid, only in case my said wife shall not be candid in exposeing all the estate that is mine or that was hers at the time of my marriage with her, that she knows of, to be inventoried as my estate, but shall endeavor to conceal part thereof, that then my will is that she shall be cut short of the third part of my personal estate given her as aforesaid and three times the value of the estate so endeavored to be concealed by her. Item. I give unto John Wadsworth, my eldest son, my house I live in and the lott it stands upon, with all other buildings and appurtenances standing upon or belonging unto the sd. lott, the one-half thereof in present possession, the other half at the decease of my said wife. Also I give and bequeath unto my sd. son the full and just half of all my other lands whatsoever, these to be to him, his heirs and assigns forever. Further, it is my will that my sd. son do, within two years after he arriveth to full age, pay unto his sister Sarah Cowles the sum of £5 equivalent unto money. Item. I give unto my son Daniel Wadsworth, and to his heirs, all the rest of my lands whatsoever not before in this instrument disposed of. Further, it is my will that my son Daniel do, within two years after he shall arrive at full age, pay unto his sister Elizabeth Wadsworth the sum of £5 equivalent to money. Item. I give unto my four daughters, viz., Sarah Cowles, Elizabeth Wadsworth, Lydia Wadsworth and Ruth Wadsworth, to be equally divided between them, all the rest of my personal estate not before disposed of, and what either of them have received from me already to be reckoned as part, and the rest divided accordingly, makeing each of them equal. As to a piece of land called the White Oak Plain, purchased by sd. wife before my marriage with her, as it was intended and agreed that one of her sons should have the said land, and to be accounted to him as part of his portion from his father Gridley's estate, viz., so much as the said land is worth, my will is therefore that it should be so. It is my desire that my brother William Wadsworth may be guardian unto my son John Wadsworth, and that my brother Hezekiah Wadsworth may be guardian to my son Daniel Wadsworth, and that my brother James Wadsworth may be guardian unto my daughter Lydia Wadsworth, and that my brother Thomas Wadsworth may be guardian unto my daughter Ruth Wadsworth, during the minority of sd. children. I make my brother, Capt. William Wadsworth, and my son John Wadsworth, when his age will allow him to act, executors.
