250. John Liggatt Tunstall - 1867.

Born November 14, 1845, in Lynchburg, Va.
Parents: Whitmell Pugh Tunstall, of Lynchburg, Va., and Mary M. Liggat.
Grandparents: William Tunstall and Sarah Pugh. Alexander Liggat and Mary Lynch.
His father died before he matriculated at V.M.I. on September 23, 1862, from Lynchburg. He was entered by Mrs. Mary M. Brooks. As a third classman he took part in the battle of New Market as a cadet private in Co. D and was promoted to be third line sergeant in Co. A at the end of the session. He continued his cadetship until he was graduated on July 4, 1867, when he stood 7 in a class of 11.
He married Florence L. Massie (d. March 4, 1912), daughter of William Massie of Nelson County, Va., the second son of Major Thomas Massie, of the Revolutionary War. They had two children: Dr. William Massie Tunstall, of Lovington, Va. ; Corinne Tunstall, who married Charles Waring, of Washington, D.C.
After the war he was a farmer in Nelson County, Va., and died there March 24, 1877, in his thirty-second year. After his death Mrs. Tunstall married, secondly, on February 23, 1879, Judge John Dunscomb Horsley (V.M.I. '68), a law partner of Senator Thomas S. Martin. Judge Horsley died in 1909 and his wife died three years later, survived by the following children: Catherine Dunscomb, Bland Massie, Thomas Staples Martin, and Eliza Perkins Horsley.
