  4. The birth date of 1 Mar 1725 found in the secondary literature has no known basis (see the discussion in MF5G), and appears to be a vestige of several secondary sources that misidentified John's parents. It is not found in any record, and by the discussion in MF5G, only appears in secondary literature when his parents are given as John Thayer and Lydia Copeland. Once his parent's are corrected, the date remains for no obvious reason. Clearly 1 Mar 1724/25 is incompatible with Philip's baptism 22 Nov 1724, if this occurred anywhere close to Philip's actual birth, as would be typical. In his father's will, he is the eldest surviving son so born before Christopher whose birth is estimated about 1729. Ephraim's baptism is record in Norton in July 1727, so 1 Mar 1725/26 would be about when the birth would be expected, but again, no basis for this is known.
