STILL (John), Bishop of Bath and Wells, 1543(?)-1608.

John Still was born at Grantham, England in about 1543. He was educated at Christ Collage, Cambridge, England. He was a profesor of Divinity at Cambridge in 1750, He became pebendary of Westminster, 1573 and Master of St. John's Collage in 1574 and of Trinity. Collage in 1577. In March of 1577 he became Archdeacon of Sudbury, and was made Bishop of Bath and Wells in Feb. 1593. He died on 26 Feb. 1608.

He is believed to have authored of Gammer Gurton's Needle which was produced in 1566 and printed in 1575. This appears to include a copy of the first British drinking song published.
