    In the passing of Rev. John S. Stevenson, at his home in Milton, Ontario, on April 15th, last, there went to his well-earned reward one who represented that sturdy, persistent, stalwart, Christian manhood, the product of the challenging situations of an iterant Methodist ministry. Mr. Stevenson was in his sixty-eighth year, having been born at Renfrew, Ont., in the year 1868. After completing his public school work in the town of his birth he spent some years in business, later taking high school work at St. Catharines' Collegiate, and graduating from Victoria University, with his Bachelor of arts degree, in 1897. Being a diligent student, and believing in the need of a well-equipped mind as an aid to the strenuous duties of an efficient ministry, he completed his B.D. course, extra-murally, three years later. He was ordained by the Montreal Conference, in 1897, and stationed at Sturgeon Falls, where the same year he took as his bride, Miss Nettie Dowler, daughter of the Rev. J. A. Dowler, then of Toronto. At the time of the transfer of the section of the Montreal Conference within the northern part of Ontario to the Toronto Conference, John Stevenson was one of those ministers involved in the transfer, spending the rest of his ministry within the bounds of Toronto Conference. His life was given largely to a rural ministry, serving besides the charge already mentioned, the following fields: Severn Bridge, Vroomanton, Mansfield, Laurel, Dalton, Coldwater, Stroud, Alton and Kettleby. While serving the latter charge he was compelled, though reluctantly, to retire from the active pastorate, three years ago, on account of ill-health.

    John S. Stevenson was an ardent student of the Bible, a sturdy preacher, and a failthful pastor. He loved the children under his charge, many of whom now revere his memory, for to them he was a "good man," and his memory will ever be sacred.
    The funeral services were held in the home and at St. Paul's United Church, Milton, April 17th, and werer in charge of the family minister, Rev. A. B. Irwin. Addresses wer given by Rev. George Purchase and Rev. Garnet W. Lynd, Chairman of Toronto Centre Presbytery, the Presbytery to which Mr. Stevenson belonged, Rev. John Lcke, a lifelong friend, read the Scripture, and Rev. W. Newman took the prayer. The body was laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery, Milton, the bearers being brother ministers: Revs. B. eyre, F.W. Madden, H.W. Strapp, Douglas Davis, Alex. Halbert, and George Purchase.
    Besides the widow, two sons: Arthur, of Hamilton Collegiate staff, and Dr. C. Keigh, of Milton; and three daughters: Mrs. H. Nablo, of Toronto; Mres. Carman Tilson, and Mrs. Ray Marshall, of Kettleby, await the reunion in the "Sweet By and By."
