Stephenson, John - born 3/28/1761 in Amherst County, Virginia; entered service 1778 in Henry County, Virginia, resided there, in Virginia company; entered service in 1780 for William Stephenson (no kinship given) there in Virginia company; married 4/28/1791 to Sally Morehead in Greenbrier County, Virginia, by Reverend John McCue; moved soon thereafter to Kanawha County (area later Cabell County); granted Pension 1833 in Cabell County, Virginia; Edmund McGinnis & clergyman Burwell Spurlock made affidavits there then, per County court clerk John Samuels; soldier resided 1842 in Wayne County (area formerly part of Cabell County), Virginia; died 3/3/1845 in Wayne County, Virginia; widow granted Pension there in 1846 at age 72, per witnesses Caleb N. Stephenson (no kinship given) & James Russell, per County Justice of the Peace John Wellman & County court clerk Hugha Bowen; marriage to soldier certified by deputy County clerk of court John A. North of Greenbrier County, Virginia, 1845; widow made affidavit in 1859 age 77 in Wayne County, Virginia, per County Justice of the Peace John Plymale; granted Bounty Land Warrant #38562 in Wayne County, Virginia, 1855 at age 82, per witnesses Daniel Witcher, Isaac Nelson, & County Justice of the Peace Absolum Queen; soldier & wife had large family of sons and daughters; surname also spelled Stephens.
