Page 118 - - 6th August, 1813. John Steele, of Natchez, in Mississippi Territory, appoints William Steele, of Rockbridge, attorney, to release and convey to John's brother, Robert Steel, the estate of John's brother, Samuel Steele.

Subject: Col. John Steele - Searching for any info on Col John Steele, b. ca 1750 in VA, d. 1817-8 in Mississippi. He served in the Rev. Was at the Battle of Point Pleasant, was a Commissioner to the Tellico Indian Treaty in Tennessee in 1798, was appointed as the first Secretary of the Mississippi Territory in 1798 by President Adams. He served as a delegate to the first Constitutional Convention in Mississippi in 1817. I believe he was the son of Samuel Steele of Augusta/Rockbridge, VA.
