John abandoned Mary Agnes at some point between 1910 and 1920, but they never divorced. He evidently hit the road and migrated through several western states, working as an oil wildcatter. Dad thought he lived in Wyoming at one point. Eventually, he wound up in New Mexico, where supposedly he died.

1880: Living under the name Verdugo, with his mother and two brothers, as well as Guadalupe.
