Acquisition of Land in Virginia
- John Smith, son and heir of Jacob Smith, patented 200 acres of land in Diggs Hundred in Charles City County April 28, 1691. The tract's western border was Turkey Island Creek, and it was adjacent to the land of Thomas Oggs. It was first granted to Joseph Royal May 4, 1638. He sold it to Edward Martin May 22, 1643, and Martin assigned it to said Jacob Smith.

Will Abstract
- John Smith wrote his will in Charles City County in 1689 and died in 1692. The records says "Obadiah and Mary Smith, son and daughter of John Smith late deceased, and William Harding and Henry Brazeel, their surities, gave bond for 48,000 pounds of tobacco to James Biss, (sic) president of this court, as joint excutors named in the will of John Smith dated 27 August 1689 and proved June 3, last past. Recorded August 3, 1692." [Charles City County, Virginia records.]

- John Smith and Thomas Davis are on record in Charles City County in 1685 as the guardians of John Mackmioll, orphan of Hugh Mackmioll. A witness to this record was Wiliam Cocke.
