[Discussing a John Smith [#56] who m. Ruth Ludlam, who he shows as s/o John Smith [#12] and Elizabeth Mills]
"This family group probably belongs here., though the compiler does not feel entirely satisfied. The New York Friends' Records, as compiled by Mr. Cox, contain the entry that John Smith, son of the Quaker Jasper Smith of Flushing, died in April, 1722, just a few days before the will of the above John was probated [will of husband of Ruth written 8 Jan 1721/2, probated 18 Apr 1722]. With a name as common as John Smith, it may be coincidence that two of the name died at about the same date; or possibly in editing the Friends' records, the death entry may have been attached to the wrong John. This John's will [husband of Ruth] named brethren Nicholas Everitt and Henry Ludlam, and two of the witnesses were Samuel Smith and Nehemiah Smith; these facts and the names of his children impel us to conclude that he belongs to the William of Jamaica family and not to the Quaker Jasper Smith connection."
