    'John, b. 1599. His name, as a yeoman, aged 36, is entered upon the Custom House rolls July 2, 1635, as a passenger for New England ...'

    The author goes on to speculate that this entry was "intended to deceive and mislead the officers of customs", as there is no evidence that John left England, but Thomas, his brother, probably did, and the entry is followed by entries for Thomas's wife and child.
