His obit (March 28, 1907 - Local topics) reads: RUNCIMAN - John RUNCIMAN, whose death occurred last Sunday after an illness of a couple of weeks, during which he was an inmate of the hospital, was a native of Scotland, being born in Selkirk about eighty-five years ago. He came when a young man to this country and lived for some time in Plattsville. For some time he operated a sawmill in Goderich township and later ran one for quite a number of years at Dungannon. He was also engaged for some time in connection with the business of the Runciman Bros here. Mr RUNCIMAN was somewhat of an eccentric character and might almost be called a hermit, never marrying and preferring to live a solitary life, though in conversation those who broke through his natural reserve found him a pleasant person to talk with. He had been a resident of Goderich and vicinity for the greater part of his life and the last few years had been employed at the organ factory. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon from Brophey's undertaking rooms, the services being conducted by Rev. Jas. Hamilton. The pall-bearers were six of the organ factory staff. Arthur RUNCIMAN and J B RUNCIMAN, nephews of the deceased, were up from Stratford for the funeral. David RUNCIMAN of Boothville, is a brother of the deceased"
