JOHN ANDREW JACKSON RHOADES (WILLIAM A. RHODES, JOHN A.) was born Feb 29, 1856 in Ala, and died Mar 04, 1932 in McGirk, Hamilton Co, Tx Source: Hico News- Review Obituary notice dated March 11, 1932:J. A. J. Rhoades, affectionately known to his multitude of friends as " Grandpa Rhoades", died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J.M. Williams, in the McGirk community on Friday morning, March 4, at 5:40 o'clock. The body was laid to rest in the McGirk Cemetary on Friday afternoon at four o'clock. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Jackson Sparkman, of Pecan Wells were held in the school building. The Board of Trustees authorized the teachers to dismiss school on Friday as a mark of respect to "Grandpa Rhoades" and his family, who are highly respected residents of that section of our county. J.A.J. Rhoades was born in the State of Alabama, February 29, 1856. When a small boy he moved with his parents to Texas, and they settled in Johnson County where he grew up and was happily married to Miss Lou Ward, who preceeded him in death many years ago He was the father of seven children, two of whom died when small. Surviving him are two daughters, Mrs. J.M. Williams and ,Mrs. Dora Moore, and three sons, Henry John, and Jake Rhoades all of whom except his son, Henry, were with him in his last illness and were present for his funeral. "Grandpa Rhoades" had been a member of the Missionary Baptist Church for some forty-five years and his life in his home and amongst the people wherever he made his home was exemplary of true Christianity. He had been living in Hamilton county almost continuously since 1888. He was liked and respected by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. The bereaved loved ones and friends have the heartfelt sympathy of many friends.).
