John Rhea (1753May 27, 1832) was an American soldier and politician of the early 19th century who represented Tennessee in the United States House of Representatives. Rhea County, Tennessee and Rheatown, a community and former city in Greene County, Tennessee is named for him.

John Rhea was a Revolutionary War Veteran who had fought at King's Mountain; he was also a delegate to the North Carolina Convention which ratified the U.S. Constitution, a member of the Tennessee Constitutional Convention (1796), a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives (1796-1797), and a U.S. Congressman from Tennessee (1803-1815). Mr. Rhea was one of the early leaders in higher education.

Tombstone Inscriptions in Blountsville Cemetery, Sullivan County, Tennessee:

John Rhea, who departed this life on May 27, 1832, aged 70 years. He was licensed to plead law in 1789; the same year was a member of the convention of N.C. that ratified the Constitution of the United States, and a member of the Legislature the same year; member of the Convention in 1790 tht framed the Constitution of Tennessee; 1796-1797, member of the General Assembly of Tennessee; member of the U.S. Congress 1813 to 1815 and 1817-1823. He was born in Ireland in 1753, came with parents to Maryland. Died in Sullivan County, in Tennessee, May 27, 1832.
