- ↑ Jack served as a Private in the West Yorkshire Regiment, Regimental No. 10102. He went to France 15 January 1915, where he was promoted to Lance-corporal and later Corporal.
Jack spent some time around the beginning of 1918 in No. 15 Casualty Clearing Station at Eblingham near St Omer, presumably suffering from wounds. At least at the end of the war, he was attached to the 146th (West Riding) Brigade as a member of its trench mortar battery. He was awarded the Victory Medal, the British War Medal, and the 1915 Star
