John Herbert Redshaw was born, 26 March 1888 in Dundalk, Co. Louth, Ireland. At the age of 4, his father Alfred Thomas Redshaw moved the family to Tralee, Co Kerry, Ireland to become the Locomotive Superintendent of the Tralee and Dingle Light Railway. Unfortunately Alfred Thomas was killed in a train accident on May 22, 1893. After the death of his Father, John Herbert Redshaw traveled with his Mother, Mary Ann Redshaw (nee Young) and two younger sisters aboard the Allan Line ship Sardinian. They left Londonderry, Ireland on September 9 1894. and arrived in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada six days later on September 15 1894. The family , accompanied by their mother’s aunt, Mary Ann Fowler (nee Bailie) traveled on to Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He lived with his mother and great aunt in a boarding house they owned at 112 Dorchester, Sainte-Marie Ward, Montreal City, Quebec in 1901 and 9 Thistle Fer, St. Antoine, Montreal City, Quebec in 1911. He married Gertrude Miriam Barnett at Taylor Presbyterian Church in Montreal, Quebec, on February 19 1912 . He worked as a Lithographer at many newspapers and printing houses in Montreal. They had eleven children. John Herbert Redshaw died on Oct 16 1976 and is buried at Mount Royal Cemetery in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
