John Randall's origins have yet to be established. His first confirmed sighting is on 4th April 1768 when he was married at Stotfold in Bedfordshire to a Sarah Plummer. At the time of their marriage he was described as being of the neighbouring parish of Newnham, just over the county boundary into Hertfordshire. After their marriage they appear to have stayed in Stotfold, having five children baptised there between 1769 and 1780. However, John did not live to see the youngest baptised; he was buried three months before her baptism.

John was buried at Stotfold on 14th November 1779, when he was described as a salesman.
