It can be assumed that JOHN was once a resident of WABASH, Indiana, since his daughter married Benjamin Lower there. Benjamin was also present in the RED RIVER EXPEDITION, so perhaps they served in the CIVIL WAR together? In a G. A. R. biography of Union soldiers, an unknown (to this compiler) individual enlisted in the 47th Indiana Infantry at Liberty Mills, Indiana (Whitley County - just immediately north of Wabash County) and was mustered in service at Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1861. The soldiers were sent to Kentucky, then joined Gen. Pope's army in Missouri, where they fought in the campaign against New Madrid. They went on to Arkansas, and were engaged in the famous Vicksburg campaign. In the fall of 1863 they were sent to New Orleans. In the spring of 1864 they took part in the famous Red River Expedition. It seems that John Ramsey (and his son-in-law Benjamin LOWER) would have had this same experience? There were a number of "Hirstein Lowers" who served in the Civil War. Of course, none of them were related to "White Creek's" Lower Family. If time permits, an attempt will be made to include the others in these WeRelate.org Pages. --White Creek 18:13, 24 January 2014 (UTC) References
