Ormerod gives this Inq. P. M.:
"10 Hen. V. "John de Radcliffe, the son and heir of Richard, was twentyseven years of age on succeeding. (fn. 73) In 1385 he had the king's protection on his departure for Normandy in the retinue of Thomas de Holand, Earl of Kent and Captain of Cherbourg. (fn. 74) His title to Ordsall seems to have been called in question in 1399. (fn. 75) He was afterwards made a knight, (fn. 76) and died in 1422 holding the manor of Ordsall and the rest of the patrimonial estate, except Shoresworth and Hope, which he had in 1396 granted to his son John on his marriage with Clemency daughter of Hugh de Standish. 'His son and heir, John de Radcliffe, ... was then twenty-four years of age.'
'The said John de Radcliffe died on the Tuesday next after the feast of the Apostles Peter and Paul [June 20] last past ...'

The Feast of the Apostles Peter and Paul is observed Jun 29, which was a Monday in 1422. June 20 (the editorial insertion) appears to be an error.

  4. 4.0 4.1 It appears that his age at his father's death was written in digits and was read as 24 by one person and 27 by another.
