    'My Grand Father John Purviance, son of the preceding John Purviance and Elizabeth Thomson Purviance, was born in 1774, lived in Little Washington Pennsylvania, and settled in Butler County about the time the County was opened. he died in 1821. The Record & Pension Office show that he served as Colonel of 2nd Infantry, in a Regiment of Pennsylvania Militia in War of 1812.'
