While researching the Robert and Rhoda Bennett family of Dearborn County Indiana I came across a probate record for this Price family in Franklin County who came to Indiana from New Jersey. It is the estate of John Price who died sometime before November 1833 when his brother Samuel was appointed to administer his estate. On November 10 1834 Samuel reported to the court on John`s estate. He listed assets of 40 dollars and 50 cents being pay for services in the late war (1812?) obtained by Honorable Amos Lane. 20 dollar legacy due to deceased from the estate of Joseph Price deceased, late of New Jersey, father of said John Price. And 25 cents, the value of a powder horn, being all the goods and chattels of said deceased which had come to attention of said administrator.
After paying bills and expenses the amount left for disbursement was 41 dollars and 54 cents. This was distributed as follows:
Disbursement to two brothers of deceased, Joseph and Silas, 12 dollars and 62 cents.
To three sisters, Catherine, Mary and Rebecca, 20 dollars.
To Samuel Price, administrator of estate, his share as brother of deceased, 6 dollars and 50 cents.
A small amount in addition went to pay fees for clerk, etc.
This Price group was located in Highland township in Franklin County. Samuel and Joseph with families are living next door to each other in 1850 census. Joseph evidently died between 1850 and 1860 and Samuel between 1860 and 1870. The other brother, Silas, went to Ohio around 1830 and was in Terre Haute, Vigo County Indiana by 1850`s. There is a biography in a Vigo County book about Silas` son, also named Silas, which says that Silas died in Minnesota (I think) in 1858. I don`t have the name of the book at hand, I could probably find it again if anyone needs it.
The connection to the Robert and Rhoda Bennett families I mentioned earlier was through their son Benjamin, who married Sarah Price McFee, widowed daughter of Samuel Price. Benjamin`s brother Preston was living next door to Samuel and Joseph in 1850. Samuel Price`s wife and Preston Bennett`s wife both had the same last name, Peak, perhaps aunt and niece.Benjamin, Sarah, Preston, and Sarah`s two brothers, Wesley and Fletcher Price, all went to Iowa after 1860, appearing in the 1870 census on same page in Washington County, Iowa. I see no record of this family in Franklin County after 1870.
I am posting this even though I have no connection to this family (and little to the Bennetts) because I`ve seen no record of this group anywhere else and hope this will reach someone who will find it of use.
