    John Powell "was born in Charlestown, Mass., March 7, 1669, or more probably 1683", m. Anne Dummer. Mr. Powell was Governor Dummer's private secretary for the next few years after his marriage. In 1727, Mr. Powell because resident of North Yarmouth, leaving the city for a backwoods life, Mrs. Powell not accompanying him. He departed this life October 1, 1742, and his son, Jeremiah, came into possession of his estate.
