    Son of Judge Samuel Phillips (founder of the Academy) and Phebe Foxcroft;
    born, Andover, Aug. [sic] 18, 1776;
    Phillips Academy, 1783-89;
    Harvard College 1795 (salutatorian) ;
    studied law with Hon. Samuel Dexter, Boston;
    farmer, merchant, and successor to his father in the paper manufactory ;
    senator from Essex;
    aide-de-camp to Governor Strong;
    trustee of Phillips Academy and of Phillips Exeter Academy;
    one of the founders of Andover Seminary;
    resided at the "Phillips manse" in North Parish of Andover;
    died Sept. 10, 1820.
    Phillips Brooks was his grandson.
