143 JOHN PENCE was born about 1778 in Rockingham Co VA; died - Jun 1834 in Rockingham Co (Cass Co IL history); married Mary Smith (probably the John Pence who married Polly Smith 9 Jan 1807 Rockingham Co; also a record of John to Polly Smith 11 Jan 1807 in Albemarle Co VA); George Pence, with John Conrad as bondsman, was made administrator of the estate of John Pence, son of "Black John" Pence, on 18 Aug 1834 Rockingham Co and was made guardian of John's children, Mary, Elizabeth and Irena, on 16 Aug 1836; a Cass Co history bio on his son Joseph says this John Pence had three sons and five daughters, all but Joseph had died before 1892; one son (Honarius) died in Davis Co IA, two daughters (one was Irena) died in Davis Co, three daughters died in Scott Co IL and one son died in Scott Co.
